Constitution of the Republic of Moldova
(1) The state guarantees to every person the right to life and to physical and mental integrity.
(2) No one shall be subjected to torture or to cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment or punishment.
(3) The death penalty is abolished. No one shall be held guilty of any penal offense on account of any act or omission which did not constitute a penal offense, under national or international law, at the time when it was committed.

Unique article. - In Article 24 (3) of the Constitution of the Republic of Moldova, adopted on July 29, 1994 (Official Gazette of the Republic of Moldova, 1994, No. 1), as subsequently amended, the text "except for acts committed in time of war or imminent danger of war and only in accordance with the law "is excluded.
